Language engineering for the Semantic Web: a digital library for endangered languages.

Many languages are in serious danger of being lost and if nothing is done to prevent it, half of the world's approximately 6,500 languages will disappear in the next 100 years. Language data are central to the research of a large social science community, including linguists, anthropologists, archeologists, historians, sociologists, and political scientists interested in the culture of indigenous people. The death of a language entails the loss of a community's traditional culture, for the language is a unique vehicle for its traditions and culture.

topics

The conference is based on two broad topics, Semantic Web and Digital libraries and the convergence of both the technologies.

ICSD2009 to Host the 6th Workshop on Semantic Web Applications and Perspectives (SWAP2009)

The ICSD Organizers are happy to announce that this year's edition is going to host SWAP2009, the 6th Workshop on Semantic Web Applications and Perspectives (SWAP2009).

The Semantic Web Applications and Perspectives Workshop series (2004 Ancona, 2005 Trento, 2006 Pisa, 2007 Bari, 2008 Rome) aims at bringing together researchers and participants interested in Semantic Web technologies. Although we expect mostly Italian speakers, international contributions are encouraged and the official language is English.
