EU’s culture goes digital

Europeana, the European Digital Library, is a digitization project initiated by the European Commission to guarantee access to heterogeneous digital contents.

Online since December 2008, the European Digital Library contains approximately two million digital items (paintings, books, films, archives, etc.) already in the public domain, supplied by different institutions from the 27 countries of the European Union.

The digital resources are selected among those already digitized within archives, libraries, museums and audiovisual archives.
